21 taken to hospitals after deck collapses at NC beach home
Wed Jul 10, 2013
I've rented many a beach home/vacation home and I'd be very surprised if the owners allowed this many people in the home at one time. Usually a contract has a "no parties" clause. Twenty one people on a deck is a large gathering as I'm sure there were others inside the home too.
Cat poop parasites may pose public health hazard, study suggests
Tue Jul 9, 2013
I have to agree- laying it all on cats is a bit much. Three decades ago a colleague of mind contracted Toxiplasomsis. He wasn't a cat owner but he was an avid fisherman - always eating what he caught, particularly trout. His doctor said it was likely to have been caused by undercooking his fish dinn …
'Blade Runner' Oscar Pistorius resumes training ahead of murder trial
Fri Jun 28, 2013
He's never going to be convicted - the system has horrendous prisons and no way will the powers that be want him in there - it's ok for the average black guy to do hard time, but not precious Oscar! Best to just plan on never buying the products he ever endorses and never visit the sports event he c …
Hunt for Snowden upsets diplomatic ties, could ding US reputation
Tue Jun 25, 2013
Oh our power isn't fading - it's right there in my wallet. Time to look at those manufacturing labels that read "Made in China" and ask where the stuff we buy gets made. Then don't buy it. Little steps on the homefront can send a sharp reminder to Russia and China that the dollar can make or break t …
Moderate cleric Hassan Rouhani elected president of Iran, interior ministry says
Sat Jun 15, 2013
I like to start out optimistic - he got a majority of the vote and was educated in Scotland. Even if the ayatollah holds the cards, at least this guy might not offend the west as much and be better at diplomacy. Fingers crossed.
G-8 security: Northern Ireland's biggest ever police operation for Obama visit
Sat Jun 15, 2013
What have any of these G8, G20, or G whatever summits ever achieved? Every time they take place it's the same old "world leaders roll into town and anarchists tear the place up" story. $857,901,850.31 was the cost of the summit when it was held in 2010! It's a disgusting waste of money and a modern …
Slain London soldier was 'loving father' who served in Afghanistan
Thu May 23, 2013
Where to? The killers were born in the UK to Nigerian parents who were the immigrants years ago. What country do you know of will take the deranged and unstable citizens of others? This is actually more a result of the cess pool that London and the South East of England has become. Remember the ter …
Silver lining: Family digs dogs out of rubble
Tue May 21, 2013
There are so many people in the world who seem to enjoy abusing animals yet here we have a family who took the time to dig for their beloved pets, rather than writing them off. It's tragic that people have died, but people have the opportunity to make their own decisions - do they build a shelter? D …
Sentenced to debt: Some tossed in prison over unpaid fines
Mon May 27, 2013
I work in a library that uses a collection agency. I can tell you that there is a certain section of people who owe us money, who will ignore all reminders (phone calls, letters, and notification of using a collection agency) until they go to buy that car or seek a job and the library fine shows up …
No. 1 swimming pool problem? It's number two!
Thu May 16, 2013
This issue has just reminded me of something I learned from a nursing friend of mine years ago. She was working in a maternity ward and she lamented that she was shocked at the number of women who turned up at the hospital, knowing they were in labor with, ahem, plenty of "formed fecal matter" aroun …

Parents debate whether it's OK to let kids pee in public
No! It's just not right.
My kids were potty trained between 23 and 27 months. When training them, I stayed home a LOT more and took them out only when they were wearing training pants, in case such an event was likely. This mom lacked a bit of organization which is surprising, because with older children I would have though …
